Saratoga & Yorktown Victories Dinner

The Society pulled out all the stops again for our annual Saratoga & Yorktown Anniversaries Celebration Dinner on October 16th, held at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA. We had over 80 members and their male guests (and several prospective members also) for this ceremonial evening featuring a superb menu and spirits provided by Stoll and Wolfe Distillery from Lancaster County, PA. This local PA distillery has a historic connection to George Washington’s Mount Vernon grist mill and distillery, and we all enjoyed the signature cocktail for the evening, The Victory & Valor Manhattan made with Stoll & Wolfe’s own Whiskey.

The evening began with Aronimink’s signature raw bar and hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail reception, and once we were all summoned to dinner in the Grand Ballroom, the evening continued with welcome remarks from President C. Michael Whelan and an historic reflection from our Society’s Historian Edwin S. Hart, III, DPM. This then led into the traditional toasts given at dinner by our Society officers, and the program concluded with Jim Wolfe giving us a fascinating talk about the role and importance that the grain farmers and distillers played leading up to, during and just after the American Revolution. The evening did not end there, and members continued on into the wee hours with cigars and fraternity out on the patio.

Enormous thanks to our event chairman William F. Forbes not only for putting this event together, but also as the Flag Chairman of our Society’s Color Guard, for preparing the always-appreciated static display of our Revolutionary War Standards and Colors for all to enjoy.
