George Washington’s Birthday Ball
The Society held its annual Washington’s Birthday Ball celebration on Saturday, February 14th at The Ivy Ballroom at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
This spectacular new venue served as the perfect backdrop for our Birthday Ball celebration which just so happened to also fall on Valentine’s Day this year. After a spectacular cocktail reception on the balcony, The Society Color Guard, led by Captain Robert J. McNelly, then paraded the Standards and Colors into the ballroom, and presented the Colors to the President and to the Society members and honored guests. Our Society Vice Presidents and officers then gave the Traditional Toasts.
The dinner program included entertaining remarks from our Society Historian Dr. Edwin S. Hart, III, and an update from Matthew Skic, Director of Collections at The Museum of the American Revolution about our new Fellowship Program at the museum, which is supported by our Rorer Endowment for Education and Scholarship. We also welcomed PSSR member R. Reinhard Brasko, the State President of the PA Society, Children of the American Revolution, who brought glowing greetings from the C.A.R. After dinner, the band Jump City Jazz Orchestra led the festivities with dancing for all. The formal event wrapped at 11 PM, and our portrait of George Washington, watching carefully in the artium, was truly the last to leave the building, as always. Happy Birthday, George!
