First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry

This purely volunteer cavalry troop was the first organized in defense of the colonies. Today, the Troop is certainly the oldest mounted military unit and quite possibly the oldest military unit of any kind that has been in continuous service to the Republic. The times that called it into being, and the character of the original members who fought through the seven years of the American Revolution, together forged concepts of service and a body of tradition that have given it a continuity of purpose since 1774.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO

The St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia

As the oldest, continuously operating charity in the United States, we stand as a proud beacon of Scottish heritage and service, embodying the timeless values of tradition, culture, fraternity, and service.  In line with its enduring dedication to education and heritage, the Society directs much of its efforts toward granting scholarships to college students aspiring to study at the Ancient Universities of Scotland. While the focus on educational support remains paramount, the Society also honors its founders’ original intent by extending assistance to anyone facing financial hardship, regardless of background. This inclusive approach reflects the Society’s unwavering commitment to serving humanity, transcending ethnic, cultural, and religious boundaries to offer aid to those in need.
