Younger Members Spring Social at The Troop Armory

Sometimes it takes more than just our enthusiastic PSSR Younger Members to put together a great social event, and this spring we saw just that. A cooperative group of younger members from a variety of organizations, including The Jeptha Abbott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames – Chapter II, the St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia, The First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, and of course, our own PSSR Younger Members came up with the ambitious plan to breathe new life into a concept from 30+ years ago – a Younger Members Spring Social – for our collective younger members to gather and socialize, but also for new member recruitment and “cross-pollination” between several like-minded organizations with similar missions.
The result was a fantastic evening, hosted at the spectacular Troop 23rd Street Armory, offering sumptuous hors d’oeuvres and buffet, an open bar, and the super talent and tones of Billy Handy on the piano. The nominal subscription cost to attend was courtesy of the generosity of these five organizations, helping to underwrite the expenses, and suffice it to say, the actual attendance far surpassed the expectation for the event. Over 130 attendees joined us for this “inaugural” Spring Social, and everyone involved in organizing this event left the evening feeling enormously encouraged for future events like this. We will certainly plan on repeating this event next spring (maybe not in the June heat like this year), but we also plan to organize a similar event this fall.
An enormous amount of thanks goes out to the Organizing Committee for this event; Camilla Bowden, Leila Gresh, Gavin Grater, Will Forbes and Ken MacNeal. Every single one of them played a critical role in the great ideas for this event, and the execution. Also, a shout out to Bonner’s Catering for the great food and bar setup, and again to Billy Handy on the piano for providing the classic soundtrack for the evening.
